The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the LA Philharmonic are doing more live scoring of movies. Their programming has also become much more diverse, which is fabulous. People tend to forget that Beethoven wrote the Emperor Concerto because he thought Napoleon was going to be this great wonderful thing. It meant something to people differently than if you go listen to this today.
Gustavo Dudamel brought classical music to the masses in Los Angeles. Now he’s announced that he’s taking his talents to New York, which could revive classical music on one of its biggest stages.
