The Prescriptivism of Language

Dictionary makers will say we're a descriptivist. It's not our job to say right or wrong, we just say how the language is used. There were clearly ideas about how language should be and how it shouldn't. But for example, Robert Loth actually used things from Latin in Latin to describe English that really had no bearing on the way that English was structured.
