The Importance of Jewish Rituals in Spain
In 1492, Jews in Spain were forced to convert or leave the country. Many of them left Iberia and went to North Africa and Eastern Mediterranean. Teresa's grandfather was found guilty by the Inquisition for being a Judah Iser. He moved his family from Toledo to Avila with a new identity as an Edalgo. In 1940s, somebody studying Fletos de Edalgia lawsuits over Edalgo status stumbled on her family's case at court.
