The Value of First Editions
A book is a lovely thing to interact with in that sense you can doodle and annotate them. The very first books of course were all written by hand until Gutenberg came along. There's no economical way to reproduce books on a large scale in china print runs because they were relatively low. It's just human nature we value things that are rare or in some way important.
