The German Economic Model and the Importance of Efficiency
The German economy is very much based in productive industry. To sustain this model, you need to have two things: technological innovation and cheap energy. Germany's wage compression was one way of achieving this price competition because most of what we export obviously exported to other European countries. This created domestic problems, of course, of inequality, but also problems for the countries who are importing our goods and have difficulties to compete.
