'It's All in the Diary,' He Said. 'They Were Left Behind'
Aileen's family struggled with what they called the defence team's deliberate, malicious misquoting of tom and ileen's diary entries. The families permitted the sunday age to publish further excerpts of the entries that had been presented in court. Following the judgment, jack nan approached eileen's parents, johnny and kathy haines. Shaking johnny's hand, he said, i apologize. I'm so terribly sorry. Johnny gave him a hug and wished him luck, and cathy embraced him warmly. Nan left the court surrounded by his wife, father and other supporting family members and friends.
