The Only Redeemable Virtue Is to Give Up Yourself
Christianity finds the questions of virtue quite unanswerable. The only redemption is to give up yourself to a higher power, something above mankind. That means perfection comes later, after death. So christianity gives up on virtue in the greek sense, in the old sense. And allan watts is actually a perfect example, i think, to drive home this eternal moral problem. He spoke of liberating ourselves from karma, from desire, from selfishness and so on. Yet his addiction compelled him to continue to indulge in excessive behaviour until it killed him.
