The Voting Rights Act Is a Race Blind Project

Justice Katanji Brown Jackson in her first week on the bench explicitly called out the court on purporting to be upholding the Voting Rights Act while it is gutting it from the inside out. Justice Jackson lifts up the actual language from the reports around the 14th amendment to say what are you talking about when you say this is a race blind project. The framers were trying to ensure that people who had been discriminated against the freedmen during the reconstructed construction period were actually brought equal to everyone else in the society, she said.
