The first third of this movie takes place in the matrix. However, nothing that happens in the matrix really ends up having any consequence. There's never any ike, what changes about neo while he's in that train station? What choice is he forced to make that changes him, that is going to propel him into the second half of this movie. That's what makes it feel like this really frustrating detour.
