i think it depends on the age group among younger speakers so i have a teenage daughter and she uses like quite a bit. The social benefit to her is it gives off that sort of cool hip not too concerned with you know academics and scholasticness. My students are very self-conscious about it so i make them study it and analyze their speech. I teach 20-somethings every year and they're delightful and i will tell you they're very concerned about their like use.
