The Immodest Word
An evil word falling into a weak heart spreads and expands like a drop of oil falling on linen. Be careful therefore, never to allow an improper word to slip between your lips. Those who judge that they are gallant because they speak such words are wholly ignorant of the reason why people come together in conversation. If some fool should address you with unbecoming words, show him that your ears are offended either by turning yourself immediately away or by some other kind of sign of displeasure as prudence directs.
