The Importance of Soil in Climate Change Mitigation

Half of the world's soils are considered degraded. Carbon that would have lasted maybe a year or two if it was left on the surface can stay in soil for hundreds of years, even thousands and more. Human actions contribute about 15% of the CO2 that we keep releasing to the atmosphere every year. Soil has this amazing capacity to store carbon, but we humans have been messing with the soil.
