The Elasticity of the Terms Architect and Director
The term architect is actually a legally protected term. I use the term because people think they know what an architect means and it becomes interesting when an architect is talking about science fiction film. It gives me some kind of authority to start to talk about and critique popular culture in that way. No one self senses like architects within our own discipline. We have this extraordinary self-importance. That's not to diminish the work that architects as building makers do. But rather it is to say that you can be an architect and a politician. You can bean architect and a city planner. You can also be an architect and a curator or an architect and games designer or a production designer.
