The Leopard Seals on the Island
There's a chapter partway through Nye's book that has the rocks and beaches bursting with new life. This is mostly penguin chicks and seal pups. It's an exuberant scene you can almost hear the charming chaos all over the beaches but then the leopard seals appear. Yeah so there are predatory leopard seals also on the island and they tend to consume a lot of first-seal puppies. The way they mark leopard seals is by putting a tag into their tail flipper.
