The Lacanian Theory of Desire

I was just going to ask kind of an off topic question. I wanted to get your thoughts as a fellow failed filmmaker. One thing that I do think is very interesting about analysis and maybe even the Lacanian theory specifically with regard to developing characters. It lends itself to being able to develop complex characters right that had these contradictory motivations. How that could be a way of open your eyes as far as a writer goes.
