If you can't easily differentiate between classes of competitors, sub-segments of that market, it's probably not a good one to invest in. And so what you're doing in this process is honing the thesis. You want to learn just enough to be credible. Even after you ultimately succeed in this process of buy a company, you'll never know enough.
