Aaron mankey looks at the power structure of massachusetts in 16 92. He finds that many of the judges were wealthy and connected to powerful circles. The court's chief magistrate was William stoughton, a former lieutenant governor for Massachusetts. Stoughton used his political positions to enrich himself through public office. But he would also be ruthless when it came to getting things done.
