Herodotus and the Revolt of Ionia
The Persian fleet and army went to that Melidas, before setting out in 493 BC to stamp out the last embers of the revolt. The cities of Ionia were undoubtedly harrowed in the aftermath but none seemed to have suffered quite the fate of Melidas. Darias showed a surprising amount of leniency to the others, which reflects his wisdom and forethought. With all of Asia Minor and Thraces now firmly returned to Persian rule, the revolt was officially over.
