She says the fact that grades and SATs created a barrier such that that family felt like they had to cheat actually shows that that creates a really good barrier. Kohn: If you look at what an upper middle class family is spending on extracurriculars and enrichment activities compared to a family that's lower class, they have a 10 to one outspend.
