I don't teach people to memorize hand gestures. You can actually tell when someone has a memorized hand gesture. I think one of the really important things about telling the story to yourself is i also create markers in the story. What happens to performers, story tellers and speech givers is that the beginnings of their stories and speeches tend to be much better prepared than the end. And it's always some natural transition point where you know something is shifting. This time i'm going to start at marker too. That'll avoid that problem of sounding great for 60 % of your performance and then sounding not so great for the last 40% of your performance.
