Fritz and his father were part of an original batch of jewish men who had come from bukhenwelt. They survived to january 19 forty five, when the army ere approaching aswitz. A number of prisoners believed that when the red army were close, the s s would simply slaughter all the remaining prisoners,. And fritz and a number of other prisoners wanted to be able to fight back. He also obtained civilian clothes which he and his father took to wearing underneath their camp uniforms.
