The Importance of Standardizing Software

If you're doing software that is embedded into some physical devices, then you've got some pretty hard dependencies. So if a team or maybe an organization with multiple teams has different software with these different characteristics, should those teams have different iteration lengths? Do you think an organization gets synergy by just forcing all the teams to standardize on a length? I would never, just for the sake of standardizing, standardize across all my teams.
