She's locked into that community and a woman who strays from the tribal wisdom of it is condemned for it. And then she defies it and lives with it. The sign of her guilt and her society's determination of it, their judgment of her and the sign of her proud defiance too. It suggests that there's something more powerful than us out there that can cause these sensations.
