Tokfield and the Revolution in Europe in 1848

In 1848 the year of the liberal or perhaps at a stretch even the democratic revolutions in Europe that swept the continent most but not all countries were caught up in them for a while. Many people channeled many different kinds of hopes into those revolutions for liberals like tokfield there was at least the hope of a kind of liberal transformation and yet it wasn't that the wheel turned all the way around the wheel never really turned at all. The 1848 revolutions fizzled out the tokfield some of that fizzling out was good but he also experienced the disappointment of a liberal who sees even his modest hopes snuffed out by the complexity of politics as time goes on.
