The government wants people that are just smart enough to work the machines and just dumb enough to not realize how badly they're geting screwed over. George carlin, of course, talks about this in his legendary bit. He's right. The aim of public education is not to spread enlightenment at all. It is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level for training a standardized citizenry. That is its aim in the united states, whatever the pretensions of politicians, pedagogues and other such mountbanks. And that is its aim everywhere else.
