What Kind of Universe Would God Need to Create to Create Genuine Friendship With God?
Most people think that god's freedom entails that god does not have to create anything at all, nor that god has to create any particular universe. Some might argue that this is a very tragic world. So here is another kind of theodyse to consider. One might say that god freely decides to create a universe so that creatures can enter into genuine friendship with god. Now we have to ask, what kind of universe would god need to create in order to make this friendship possible? John hick and richard swinburne give some interesting answers in this regard. They say that god needs to create a particular kindof universe where creatures can perform free actions to cultivate a good moral character
