Irwin Jacobs - The Bible of Digital Communication Theory
Irwin Jacobs studied under Claude Shannon, the father of information theory. He and a fellow faculty member write the first textbook on digital communications that is still in use today. In 1964, he takes a sabbatical and heads out to California to work at Jet Propulsion Labs. After his sabbatical, Irwin then gets a call shortly thereafter from one of his former professors about starting an engineering school in San Diego.
