Glendale's dedicated arson investigator John Orr, usually looked forward to these events as a chance to share his knowledge and network with colleagues. On June 27, 1990, the temperature soared above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, with winds blowing 35 miles per hour. The college hills fires had completely destroyed 46 homes, damaged 20 others, and caused $50 million in damage. It was a miracle that nobody had been killed or seriously injured.
