The Three Key Moments in German History
Gasoline shortages are spreading across the country. Looking back at this moment, it feels somewhat similar to Europe's current crisis. The first was the oil shocks of the 70s when oil producing countries in the Middle East cut off oil to several countries, including the United States. And then we see the second key moment, which came in 1986 with the Chernobyl accident. Unless nuclear power meant that Germany needed more Russian gas and not just for industry and heat, but also for electricity. Then there was the end of the Cold War, starting with the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.
