The Rise and Fall of the 12-Inch Vinyl Format
By 1990, some labels weren't even issuing their new albums on vinyl LP at all. Releasing a major radio hit only on vinyl 12-inch single in 1990 was tantamount to not issuing it as a single at all. The 12-inch made you can't touch this eligible for the Hot 100, but far less likely for consumers,. especially teenagers, to buy it. Why would a major label put out one of the biggest catchiest songs of the year on the most popular singles formats?
