Until recently, it was optimal for your ancestors in the world they lived in to have these false beliefs about their motives and to act the way they did. That was actually more effective for them in achieving their evolutionary goals for reproducing and succeeding or things like that. We could say, well, the world's changed and maybe it's no longer optimal for individuals to be so ignorant. Or we could say, look, this is the equilibrium for most people most of the time,. It might not always be the best thing to do. I can very much believe that a long run this will change. But I don't have any particular reason to think it'll happen soon or fast.
