Nathaniel Carter pulled out an old scroll and began to read in a language I didn't recognize, the blur was reacting. Badly. The strange shadow creatures became more agitated around the perimeter of the clearing,. It felt like they wanted to rush in, to devour. But something was holding them back. Was it the blur? I couldn't tell. Veronica took my arm and marched me forward, toward Nathaniel Carter and the stone altar. There were carvings on the altar, which was actually more of a small stone table. For some reason the word altar had entered my mind when I first saw it from across the clearing. At that point, it felt almost like a memory
