I just call it how much risk are you putting into the portfolio. The ones that I used were specifically a percent of equity of the risk to the stop loss. How fast does a market move up or down each day as a percent of your equity? Third picks up weird guys like Euro dollars or in the old days and some high margin low volatility types of instruments which every now and again go crazy. So I would just do all three of those calculations and take the lower of the whichever one came out the lowest in terms of number of contracts, that was how many I did.
