i had some audience confusion over the interchanging usage of the c c p versus china. I want you to focus on the partyb i think, in our discussion in this country, or in the west more generally, to make the distinction between ch China and the communist party that runs it. The other reason is because it hilights the nature of this kind of regime. So sometimes scholars refer to this as a party state. It's a system in which there is a government, a bureaucracy that does the kinds of things that bureaucracies do everywhere. But there is also an ultimate source of power within that system - the communists.
