Asylums were built so that you could rescue the medally ill from jails and prisons, and now we put them back there. The three largest places of patient to care for the mentally ill now or the los angeles county jail, the cook county jail in chicago, and riker's island, the jail in new york. Patients now, in large numbers, cycle between homelessness, life in the gutter, sidewalk psychotics, as they are sometimes called. And then when they get to be too much of a nuisance and commit some crime, off to jail, and then back out of jail, and the cycle repeats. So yes, literally, you could get the same
