The Effects of Imaginary Friends on Child Development

According to our current scientific understanding of it, creating imaginary companions is part of normal child development. But even if we're still not sure why that happens, why at least certain children develop that capacity? Do we know if when they have imaginary friends, if they influence other aspects of their psychology? Like for example, how they think about and characterize their real-life trends? Yeah, so a student of mine, Paige Davis, is now doing research in her own lab on this same topic.
