The Indo Europeans Used a Base System of 60 in Counting
All modern english numbers are based on repeating increments of ten. The original inda europeans also counted in tens. Even to day, we count by twelves. For certain things, a dozen eggs, 12 inches and a foot 12 s in a year, each day is divided into two 12 hour increments. So some of our tendency to mesure certain things come from these indo european sources.
