The founders intended for the United States to be a democracy, he says. The legitimacy of our government was not going to be that the person in charge was of royal blood,. That's what Europeans did it. They adopted republican tools to get there because they were fearful appropriately of simply throwing every issue up to the masses. For their time, the founders did not believe that women should be part of this discussion; we don't now.
