The abolitionist movement in Britain is one of the great success stories and perhaps the success story of British social history. After that point, after the movement has succeeded and achieved its goals, there's a reorganization. There's a very strong transatlantic link with American abolitionists forming a union across the Atlantic to pressurise the south. So at the beginning of the war in 1861, anti-slavery is in a healthy position.
