Leah Kalinga Bay was diagnosed with sickle cell disease at six months old. Her parents were told she wouldn't live beyond her teens but now in her 30s she has founded the Africa Sickle Cell Organization to campaign for other people with the disease. She tells how it's affected her life in both good ways and bad ways. The worst of the symptoms of sickle cell is pain. Being able to live with the chronic pain, recovering from bad pain and knowing that you will eventually get it again gives you a form of post traumatic stress disorder.
