Prager: When hospitals merge and create a highly concentrated labor market, wage growth slows for some medical specialties. He says almost all of the losses in wage growth happen in parts of the country where unions are weak. Prager expects that as the share of vet jobs that are controlled by a single or maybe a small handful of companies rises, veterinarians will be less able to extract from their employer's good working conditions and good wages.
