The border follows you anywhere in the country. It's been deeply militarized and policed in ways that are very difficult to reel in or avoid. The most critical jobs were largely worked by big shares of immigrants during COVID. A lot of people for various legitimate reasons, but also probably maybe perhaps some prejudiced reasons will often like to picture someone coming from a different country as being better at their job than an American.
