The Colonial Gaze

The way in which people talk about authenticity and contrast themselves with tourists is a way in which the colonial gaze lives on. i think these narratives ultimately tell us more about western ways of seeing than they do about the places or people being gazed upon. I wonder, for example, how participants may have responded if i had asked them to reverse their gaze, to consider what an authentic uk experience might look like.
