Every cell is inheriting the same DNA. It's inheriting different epigenetic modifications. These modifications, in some cases, can go on and they can come up in half an hour. And that allows cells to respond really, really quickly to the environment. We can now understand things like how the turtles end up male or female. But does it matter beyond just basic biology? Well yes, it really does. One thing epigenetics can be used to find new ways to treat diseases. This is what I worked on for a decade of my life.
