"I think it's so crazy how everyone in these stories where someone escapes and is asking for help, it's always multiple doors they have to bang on," she says. "It's like, by standard of facts, like you just don't want to deal with it." She describes seeing a young woman who had been thrown out of an Uber throw up all over the road while her car was driving away. The author also saw a homeless woman crying as she came back from a run but didn't know what to do about it.
