Lady nijo was descended from the shijo family, a branch of the great fujiwara clan. Sukedai's family had arranged for her to become the concubine of the young emperor go fuka kusa. She was designated as his suke, essentially the one responsible for training him in the arts of romance and other things i can't talk about on a family friendly podcast.
