The US Supreme Court Ruled That the Policy of Affirmative Action in College Admissions Is Unconstitutional

On June 29, the US Supreme Court made a 6-3 decision in two cases. These decisions were that race-based affirmative action programs in higher education violate the 14th amendment of the Constitution. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the majority opinion arguing that the way to stop racial discrimination is to stop discriminating on the basis of race altogether. He criticised the idea of using race as a plus factor in admissions decisions. This had allowed universities to use race as a reason to choose one student over another.
