Exploding the Sound of Sand on a Dune
The booming sound has to be triggered in the absence of wind. To help it naturally occur, melony and her students developed a method to trigger it. They would just sit down on the slope of the dune that was pretty steep and just scooped down. As you're scooting down on your back side, just try to move some sand with your hands. It really is quite incredible. And so it sounds like a low flying propeller plane.
