The founders read deeply and they engage with their reading. Montesquieu's idea of the separation of powers has not worked well in history. Political parties are something that the founders simply don't know anything about. They're shocked by them as someone has mentioned here. Good heavens, we have political parties. This looks terrible. Jefferson hoped very strongly when he was inaugurated that there would no longer be political parties.
