How to Deescalate Patients in the ED

There's the space in the ED that you need to try and assess or deescalate. And ideally you want to identify an in advance of the next patient who comes in. So it's really challenging in the ED to manage these patients because, like you say, you need that perfect space which might not exist. But if it doesn't, just think about in advance what you could do or where you might use. Once we've kind of got the environment set up, we then need to establish some verbal contact with the patient. They're already maximally overwhelmed by what's going on. This is still a patient at the end of the day.
